Prize of Human Rights Martine Anstett - 2020 Prize

2020 Martine Anstett Prize
Tahani Abass, winner of 2020 Martine Anstett Prize

Tahani Abass is a journalist, a lawyer and a defender of women's rights in Sudan. She is involved in investigations of human rights violations with a focus on sexual violence. She coordinates support for women victims with several civil society organizations, including No to Women’s Oppression. She also takes initiatives for reconciliation and leads advocacy campaigns. Thanks to her work, she was able to shed light on cases such as the case of Noura Hussein, sentenced to death before having her sentence reduced to 5 years imprisonment. Tahani Abass is now working with women that were victims of rape during the bloody repression of June 3, 2019, in Sudan.
